The Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, Mr Butler, must immediately release the Productivity Commission’s Report Caring For Older Australians.
Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, Shadow Minister for Ageing and Shadow Minister for Mental Health, said the Aged Care industry and consumers had waited too long for reform.
“Now that the Productivity Commission has sent the report to the government it is imperative that Mr Butler give people the chance to see and analyse its final recommendations,” Senator Fierravanti-Wells said.
“Under the Productivity Commission Act 1998 the government is required to table the report in each house of parliament within 25 sitting days of receiving it.
“October 19 is too far away for a sector which is crying out for reform and has participated in this inquiry in good faith.
“Aged Care is the poor cousin in the health budget and received virtually no new funding in the May budget. It must not miss next year’s budget cycle.”
