A record attempt for the largest Zumba class will raise awareness of Ovarian Cancer and the benefits of women making room for sport and healthy activities in their busy timetables.
Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells, Shadow Minister for Ageing and Shadow Minister for Mental Health, said she was pleased to be able to add her support to Sport for Women Day on Sunday 6 March.
“Sport for Women Day draws together elite athletes and ordinary everyday Australians who like to use sport and fitness to keep themselves active and healthy,” Senator Fierravanti-Wells said.
“It is so important for women to take time to exercise and how they do that is a personal choice. I enjoy my Zumba classes. As Shadow Minister for Ageing I support active ageing and it is good to see that women across all ages have embraced Zumba as part of their exercise routine.
“Sport for Women Day is combining a record attempt at the world’s biggest Zumba class with a fundraising drive for Ovarian Cancer. For every participant in the record attempt, organisers will donate $1 to Ovarian Cancer Australia.
“There is no detection test for Ovarian Cancer but the four most common symptoms are abdominal or pelvic pain, increased abdominal size or bloating, needing to urinate often or urgently and difficulty eating or feeling full quickly.”
Sunday’s program at Cathy Freeman Park at Homebush Bay and at Canberra University runs from 8am to 1pm. The world record Zumba class will be held at the two sites and Curves Gyms from 9am-10am. Registration is essential to make the record attempt valid.
