Wage Assistance

The Wage Assistance Program was established in 1999 as part of the Indigenous Employment Policy. It provides an incentive to employers to provide ongoing employment for eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander job seekers.

Community Development Employment Program Placement Incentive

The Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP) program is successful in developing the work skills of participants. One of the objectives of CDEP is to act as a staging post for Indigenous participants to move into the mainstream labour market.

CDEP organisations may receive up to $3025 when a participant leaves the CDEP and into on-going employment for at least 15 hours per week.

CDEP organisations in transition are entitled to apply for CDEP Placement Incentive for employment outcomes for eligible CDEP participants placed in ongoing employment in their new organisations.

The incentive will be paid where the CDEP organisation is the employer or the job is funded by CDEP grant funds, providing that the employee is paid full award rates in an eligible position and is not on the CDEP schedule and is not receiving CDEP wages.

Structured Training and Employment Projects

The Structured Training and Employment Projects (STEP) Program provides flexible funding for packages of tailored assistance, including structured and accredited training, to help employers give long term jobs to Indigenous Australians. Assistance is tailored to business needs and can include approaches such as funding for apprenticeships and mentoring that can lead to lasting employment.

Corporate Leaders for Indigenous Employment Projects

The Corporate Leaders for Indigenous Employment Project encourages private sector companies to generate job opportunities. It allows them to use elements of the Australian Government's Indigenous Employment Program to develop and tailor their Indigenous employment strategies to meet their business needs.

Indigenous Small Business Fund

The Indigenous Small Business Fund (ISBF) offers funding to Indigenous community-based organisations to assist Indigenous people learn about business, develop good business skills and expand their businesses.

Work for the Dole

Work for the Dole (WFD) provides work experience placements for job seekers in approved activities which provide facilities and services to local communities. Through WFD, participants may also earn a Training Credit and receive a Passport to Employment.

The General Employee Entitlements and Redundancy Scheme (GEERS) is a basic payment scheme established to assist employees who have lost their employment due to the liquidation or bankruptcy of their employer and who are owed certain employee entitlements.

Personal Support Program

People eligible for the Personal Support Program (PSP) deserve individualised attention because of their difficult circumstances. They may face homelessness, drug and alcohol problems, psychological disorders, domestic violence or other significant barriers to participation. PSP is a pre-employment programme that provides individual support to participants who, because of multiple non-vocational barriers, are unable to get a job or benefit from employment programmes such as Job Network.

Job Placement, Employment and Training Program

Job Placement, Employment and Training (JPET) is an early intervention program focusing on youth in transition. It provides help to young people who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, ex-offenders, refugees or wards of the state.

Port Kembla Industry Facilitation Fund

In response to the decision of BlueScope Steel to close its tin mill operations in Port Kembla, NSW, the Australian Government has announced a package to assist with structural adjustment of the broader Port Kembla/Wollongong economy. A contribution of $5 million for new investment will be provided from the Port Kembla Industry Facilitation Fund (PKIFF). The Fund gives effect to the Acting Prime Minister's announcement of 29 June 2006 and recognises the significance of the BlueScope facility to the local economy.
