We regret to announce the passing of staunch companion of many years, "Little Bear", the Diplocat.

Following in the legacy of the Downing Street kitties, Little Bear stepped into the breach when we took on the portfolio of International Development and the Pacific in 2016.  He became the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade unofficial Feline Ambassador – our chief ministerial diplocat - with his own “pawsport”!  In this role he established feline relationships with Larry the Cat, Palmerston, Gladstone and the other Downing Street moggies.  His twitter account @Diplocat_LB ensured that important feline stories with an Australian connection were reported.

After retirement from the portfolio, Little Bear became Chief Mouser for the Australian Senate Backbench - even catching the odd rat here and there!

Having retired, he sadly suffered a stroke on 24 August, passing peacefully on 25 August 2019.
